DOME / Frequently asked questions

Your transition. Your data. Your decisions.

Clear answers about DOME: on-prem intelligence used exclusively for clean tech and helping businesses through their energy transition. Solar, batteries and electric fleets — with data control and human ingenuity in the loop.

Clean tech, batteries & the energy transition

Is DOME exclusively for clean tech?

Yes. DOME is exclusively used for clean tech and supporting businesses or sites through their energy transition. It is not a general-purpose AI platform for every operational task. Its focus includes solar generation, battery storage, backup power and electric fleets, and the energy, water and emissions records associated with those systems.

How can DOME help with batteries and solar?

DOME brings solar generation, battery readings and site demand into one connected view. AI can flag unusual patterns and prepare recommendations about charging, reserve levels and the timing of flexible loads. Human engineers verify those recommendations before changing settings. Compatibility, available readings and any connection to existing battery controls need to be confirmed for your equipment.

How does this apply to hospitals and hotels?

For a solar-powered hospital, DOME can help engineers review generation, battery reserves and critical-load demand. For a hotel with battery backup, it can bring solar output, cooling demand and backup readiness into view. These are energy-system applications, not clinical decision-making or guest surveillance. DOME supports engineering judgement; it does not guarantee uninterrupted supply or replace the site's safety and backup procedures.

Can DOME support EV fleets for last-mile delivery?

Yes. DOME can support the energy side of a last-mile EV fleet: depot power, charging demand, solar output, battery storage and vehicle battery readings where available. It helps operators review charging recommendations against route schedules and available energy. People approve operational changes. The exact integration depends on your vehicles, chargers and existing systems.

Can we use DOME with clean-energy equipment we already have?

An existing solar, battery or charging installation can be assessed for integration; you do not need to assume every asset must be replaced. DOME Discovery reviews the site, available readings, connection options and engineering requirements. Compatibility and scope must be confirmed before deployment. You can retain your existing dashboard or choose DOME Control as the connected view.

On-prem processing & data sovereignty

What is DOME, in plain language?

DOME stands for Digital Operational & Management Edge. It is a connected on-prem stack for clean tech and the energy transition: sensors feel what is happening in your energy systems, an edge computer processes the readings locally, and AI makes real-time reports and recommendations to help people decide what to do. Your existing app or dashboard can show the results, or you can choose GMF's DOME Control dashboard.

How does on-prem edge processing help keep my data safe?

DOME's core processing takes place on an edge computer at your premises, close to your equipment. Solar, battery and fleet readings can be analysed locally without sending them to an external cloud for every calculation. This reduces unnecessary data transfers and exposure to third-party processing. Local processing is an important safeguard, not a guarantee of complete security: the equipment, network, access permissions and maintenance still need appropriate protection.

What is data sovereignty, and why does it matter?

Data sovereignty is about the laws and jurisdiction that apply to your data, alongside your ability to control where it is stored and processed. Energy-transition data can reveal generation capacity, battery reserves, operating patterns, equipment weaknesses and commercially sensitive information. Keeping processing at your site helps you retain control and reduce reliance on overseas services. It is especially relevant where cross-border transfers, critical infrastructure or local regulatory requirements need careful review.

Does any data need to leave my site?

DOME's core on-prem processing does not require sending site readings to an overseas AI service. Any optional remote support, external dashboard, backup or third-party integration should be assessed separately: what data moves, where it goes, who can access it and why. These boundaries need to be agreed for your deployment; on-prem processing alone does not mean that every connected service is also local.

Can DOME keep working if the internet goes down?

Local processing reduces dependence on an internet connection for analysing site readings — valuable for clean-energy sites where resilience matters, such as a hospital running on solar and batteries. Continued operation depends on the edge computer having power and a working local sensor network. Remote views and integrations that use the internet may be unavailable during an outage. The site study should identify these dependencies and the backup arrangements your operations need.

AI with human ingenuity in the loop

Does DOME's AI replace human engineers?

No. GMF Digital believes in human ingenuity in the loop. DOME helps people make decisions; it does not make the final call. The edge reports what it finds and prepares recommendations. Human engineers verify those recommendations, consider the site's conditions and safety requirements, then make the changes. Engineering judgement and accountability stay with people.

How does AI help people make decisions faster?

DOME analyses site readings to learn normal operating patterns, flag unusual behaviour and surface waste or faults early. Real-time reports and recommendations — on charging windows, battery reserves or flexible loads, for example — help engineers focus on what needs attention instead of manually searching through readings. The aim is a faster, better-informed review—not a promise of error-free predictions or a replacement for human judgement.

What does responsible AI governance mean for a DOME deployment?

It means setting clear boundaries for how AI is used: the data it can access, the recommendations it can make, the people responsible for reviewing them and the changes that require approval. Model performance, errors, updates and escalation procedures should be reviewed throughout operation. GMF's guiding principle is that human engineers verify recommendations before acting; governance requirements should be documented for your site rather than assumed from the presence of AI.

What happens if an AI recommendation is wrong?

AI can be wrong, especially when sensors fail, data is incomplete or operating conditions change. That is why an engineer must check a recommendation against the actual equipment, site context and safety procedures before changing an energy setting. A deployment should define how questionable outputs are flagged, investigated and corrected. DOME supports that review; it does not remove the need for it.

Privacy, access & accountability

How should data privacy and access be managed?

Privacy and data control are paramount to GMF's approach. Start with only the data needed for the agreed purpose, then define who can see it, how long it is retained and how it is deleted. Access restrictions, network separation, encryption, security updates and reviewable records should be specified and verified as part of the deployment. If readings can identify people, additional privacy obligations may apply. These safeguards need project-specific confirmation; this FAQ is not a security certification.

Will my site data be used to train a public AI model?

On-prem analysis does not require sharing your site data with a public AI model provider. Before any external AI service is introduced, its data flows, retention and training terms must be checked and agreed. Do not assume that a third-party service has the same boundaries as the local edge. Your project agreement should make permitted data uses explicit.

Does on-prem processing automatically make us compliant?

No. Local processing can support data-residency and privacy goals, but compliance also depends on the data involved, your sector, applicable laws, access arrangements and any cross-border connections. A Mauritius, UAE or other regional deployment needs its own assessment. GMF can discuss the technical boundaries with your team; legal compliance and any required independent assessment must be established for your organisation.

Do we have to replace our existing dashboard with DOME Control?

No. DOME is the intelligence underneath your digital tools. It can be integrated into an existing client dashboard or app, or GMF can provide DOME Control as an optional connected view of your site. It brings readings, reports and recommendations into view. Conversational AI to talk to your DOME is a future capability, not a current promise.

Why GMF & how to get started

Why is GMF Digital equipped to deliver this?

GMF Digital Consulting brings together engineering expertise, energy systems, digital technologies and future-ready minds. It is part of the GMF Group, whose main office is in Mauritius and whose engineering heritage reaches back to the early 1900s, supporting the island's sugar industry and productive infrastructure. GMF Digital Consulting is based in Dubai. That engineering heritage now serves today's energy transition: this combination connects digital recommendations to the physical realities of plant, buildings and energy systems. The century of heritage belongs to the group, not to DOME or the AI product itself.

Who is DOME designed for?

DOME is designed for businesses and sites pursuing the energy transition across Africa, the Indian Ocean and the GCC. Examples include solar-powered hospitals, battery-backup hotels and EV fleets for last-mile delivery, alongside other clean-tech installations. The starting point is your energy systems, operating needs and data boundaries—not a one-size-fits-all promise. The scenarios on this website are hypothetical illustrations, not named client deployments or guaranteed results.

What should we confirm before buying DOME?

Ask for a clear site-specific scope: the equipment and readings covered, where processing and storage occur, any external data transfers, who has access, who approves changes, and how maintenance and support work. Agree the security controls, retention rules, AI review process, integration needs, acceptance criteria and commercial terms in writing. A demo shows the concept; a site study establishes what is appropriate for your operation.

How do we start with GMF Digital?

Book a demo or speak to an expert about your site, priorities and data requirements. DOME Discovery is the fixed-fee site-study option: it maps energy, water and carbon flows, establishes a baseline and develops a sensor plan. Use that discussion to clarify feasibility, responsibilities and the scope before committing to a deployment.
